Our Year 4 class went on a trip to Cuerden Valley Park as part of their cross-curricular learning about rivers.

During the trip, the Park Road Community Primary School pupils took part in lots of fun river study activities to help with their learning.

One of the highlights of the trip was the search for mini beasts living in the riverbed. The students carefully combed through the pebbles and sand to discover creatures, and find out more about the diverse ecosystems that thrive within rivers.

The adventure didn't stop there. Students also tried their hand at panning for sediment, a hands-on activity that allowed them to get up close and personal with the river's geological treasures.

Activities during the day included including searching for mini beasts living on the riverbed, panning for sediment, and measuring the width, depth, and temperature of the river. They even competed in a duck race.

During their investigations the students recorded the width, depth, and temperature of the flowing water.

To add an element of friendly competition, the Year 4 class participated in an exhilarating duck race. With colourful rubber ducks floating downstream, the students cheered on their chosen quacker, making for an exciting race that tested their knowledge of currents and river dynamics.

Year 4 teacher Mrs Cunliffe said: “It was a fantastic day filled with lots of smiling faces and some soggy pairs of socks!”

Great work Year 4!
