Year 4 pupils have been exploring the city of York and learning about its Viking past as part of this year’s residential trip.

During their stay, the Park Road Community Primary School children, visited the Jorvik Viking Centre and The Dig, where they learned about Viking York and the daily lives of its inhabitants. The visit provided insight into the history and archaeology of the period.

The group also explored York’s chocolate-making history at the York Chocolate Story. They discovered the origins of well-known products such as Terry’s Chocolate Orange and Kit Kats and had the opportunity to create their own chocolate lollies.

At York Castle Museum, the pupils walked down a recreated Victorian street and took part in a dress-up activity to experience life in the past. They also visited York Minster, one of the city's most famous landmarks.

To end their trip, the children enjoyed a boat ride along the River Ouse, taking in the sights of York from the water.

The visit provided the pupils with a hands-on learning experience across multiple subjects, including history, geography, and food technology.
