Our Eco Team has been working hard to find new ways to protect the environment and care for the world we live in. We asked the team to tell us more about what they have been up to.

This half term the Eco Team have been working hard thinking about how our environment helps us all.  We have considered the birds by making our own bird feeders, we have completed a litter pick in the local area, and before half term we organised a 'Big Dig' in school.

On Friday 22nd March we invited children across school to help prepare the grounds for spring as part of the 'Big Dig'.   We had fantastic weather and the support of some our parents and families.    During the day, we cleared the polytunnel, refilled the planting beds with compost, carried out a lot of weeding and even dug out some spaces in the school grounds for new planting beds.

Following this, we have arranged for all of the classes' enrichment to be focused on creating our very own Park Road Flower Show, which will open in the last half term of the year.  Each class will design a flower bed around a theme and present it as an entry.  We are creating our own bed too and will be spreading our message around protecting the environment and caring for the world we live in.

To help us on 27th March, we visited White Moss Garden Centre and learned more about plants that are good for bees, butterflies and insects as well as how we can help animals such as hedgehogs, birds or squirrels.  Michelle showed us around and gave us lots of great ideas to bring back to school.  We gathered lots of plants, bulbs and seeds for the school whilst we were there - it took a long time for us to work through our shopping list, but we got there in the end.

Keep an eye out for our flower show entries starting to appear around the school grounds - we can't wait to see the school in full bloom!
