Celebrating World Maths Day

Maths took over Park Road Community Primary School for the day as pupils explored numbers, measurement and shapes for World Maths Day.
The national day is an international celebration designed to make mathematics engaging, exciting and accessible. At Park Road, it was used as an opportunity for some real hands‑on learning to bring maths to life.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 4 focused on estimating and measuring length, using everyday objects and measuring tools to compare sizes and discover just how challenging precise estimation can be.
In Year 2, pupils took part in a maths scavenger hunt, searching around the school for items that met specific mathematical criteria, strengthening their reasoning skills and putting their problem‑solving abilities to the test.
Meanwhile, Year 3 investigated capacity, exploring how different containers hold liquid and making thoughtful predictions before testing their ideas. Their investigations gave them a deeper understanding of volume and comparison through hands‑on experimentation.
Year 5 and Year 6 immersed themselves in the world of 3D shapes by constructing their own.
Great work everyone!
